WE know what it’s like. You’re full of motivation to wake up early and head to one of The Refinery’s fitness class the night before – but when that pesky alarm goes off at 6am the following morning, the lure of your warm, cosy bed is unbeatable.
You could be missing a trick, though. Hitting a yoga class or getting a sweat on in the morning could transform your day for the better. Here are the top reasons why you should visit us bright and early (apart from to see your lovely faces, of course)…
One of our morning classes could boost your metabolism for the rest of the day. Early exercise means you’ll continue to burn calories even after you’ve finished working out. A nice, satisfying post-workout breakfast will keep your metabolism going, too.
Whether you’re getting hot and sweaty at one of our Ass – Arms – Abs classes, or getting energised at our Get Up and Glow yoga sessions, all work outs can help boost your mood for the rest of the day.
If you’re doing cardio, your mood will improve as exercise releases endorphins – the feel good hormone – in the hours afterwards. Plus, it gives you a huge sense of accomplishment for the rest of the day.
Yoga is also another kick ass way to start the day. Enjoy mental clarity and feelings of calmness after shifting your energy and stretching out. When your colleagues are panicking about deadlines, you’ll be holding the fort down with your calm and collected mind!
It’s easy to get sidetracked when it comes to evening workouts. Friends heading to the pub? That sounds tempting. Kids need your attention? Can’t argue with that. You get the point…
Morning workouts are far harder to put off. If you’ve woken up at 6am anyway, you may as well grab your yoga mat. It’s great to get it done early so you can enjoy your evening however you wish. Even the research shows that those who exercise in the morning are more consistent with their workouts than those who do it in the evening.
Not only do those endorphins put a smile on your face post-workout, but they increase your productivity too. You’ll feel more alert for the rest of the day. The reason why? Exercise of any kind can increase your mental clarity for four to 10 hours afterwards.
Studies have shown that those who wake up early to get their workout in sleep better than those who exercise later on. When you exercise your body is stimulated, so it may be more difficult to switch off if you choose to workout late at night.
You’re also more likely to get to bed early if you’ve got an early morning class scheduled. Priorities!
If you can’t make a morning class and you’re looking for something to help you switch off, try our Friday Night Chillfest (7.15-8.15pm, every Friday). After some deep stretching, we help you to unwind with blankets, bolsters and incense.
