London’s most innovative street market
The new Well Street market is launching on Saturday December 3rd from 09:00 – 17:00. A live music stage with up-and-coming and established artists will feature a headline set by Norman Jay MBE.
Well Street Traders and Residents Association (WESTRA) have crowdfunded to bring back one of London’s most historic markets. Well Street Market will be more than a market. London’s most innovative street market will have produce, fashion, live music, and London’s first teenage and student makers market.
International painter Camille Walala has been busy painting the ‘This ‘n That’ corner in Well Street market. Check it out and see what you think!
Internationally acclaimed French artist Camille Walala, known for her striking ‘tribal pop’ style is transforming the most prominent corner facade on Well Street in Hackney, at the junction with Valentine Road and Terrace Road.
The artistic intervention is part of a collaboration with urban visionaries Colour Your City – an initiative that uses colour to positively transform urban space, and Well Street Traders and Residents Association (WESTRA), to improve and beautify the street with art and colour. Volunteers from the local community have been helping to paint the artwork, including young people from Hackney Quest.
Artist Camille Walala has a strong personal connection to the area: “Well Street most definitely is a special place for me. I used to live on this street whilst I was trying my best to promote myself as an artist. I love the sense of community here between shop owners and residents. It means a lot to me to be able to contribute something to help promote and give this great area a bit of a facelift. My work is all about fun, bold shapes and colour! I want to make people smile.”
