The dreaded eye bags, dark circles, puffy eyes, whatever you want to call ’em. Most of us get them and most of us hate them. We’ve piled together a bundle of tips that will not only help to reduce the appearance but also assist in prevention.
Lower your salt intake. Sodium can cause fluid retention in the body and lead to puffiness around the eyes.
Exercise!! Inverted poses in yoga such as shoulder stands help to increase circulation to the face which then removes away excess fluid that may be stored around your eyes – voila! Exercise in general increases circulation and promotes a youthful glow to your skin which reduces the signs of ageing.
Limit or eliminate your alcohol intake. Alcohol dehydrates both your body and skin. It can cause the area around your eyes to appear sunken and dark.
Quit smoking. Along with causing premature ageing in the face, it also dries out and weakens your skin. The chemicals can irritate the skin around your eyes which can lead to dark circles and bags as well as wrinkles.
Cool as a cucumber. It’s not an old wives tale…putting cucumber, or something chilled onto your eyes can reduce puffiness.
Sleep! Try and get those 7 – 8 hours in every night.
Eat more collagen rich foods. Increasing your collagen levels can help your skin looking smooth and firm. Bone broth or collagen supplements are a great way to increase your intake.
Massage around your eyes. This increases blood and lymph flow around the eyes and prevents blood from pooling in the capillaries under the eyes. Our expert in skin and nutrition Kate White offers beautiful bespoke facials that can assist you more with this.
