Ashtanga yoga created by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is a progressive series of postures starting with sun salutations (A & B), standing postures, seated postures, back bending and final postures, all linked together with breath.
Simply put, Ashtanga yoga is a traditional series of postures done *in the* same order every time. Many of the newer styles of yoga, such as Power and Rocket used Ashtanga as their blueprint. The class is not taken in a hot room. The practice itself builds intense internal heat, that will give you improved circulation, a light, strong body, and a calm mind.
