The Pilates mermaid is a great intermediate exercise with many variations. It can be seen as a linking movement but mainly as a stretch after the main sequence of class to help open through the hips – where we hold a lot of tension naturally.
Flowing the upper body from a centred position into lateral flexion/side bend is a great way to lengthen out at the end of class.
