We want the latest device and the latest outfit and the latest thing as fast as the push notification reaches our phones. It’s no wonder that many of us live in a permanent state of dissatisfaction, always wanting more!
Contentment is a real challenge for many people so it’s well worth examining why it’s so damn hard to feel happy with ourselves. The culture of always wanting more, of status, of constantly striving to out-do is so pervasive that it actually takes a bit of effort to realise that it’s not compulsory. Existing in a state of constant dissatisfaction and comparison isn’t the only way. A practice of expressing gratitude can help us feel better about the good things we do (already) have in our lives.
Start every day by making a list of 3 things that you are grateful for at that moment..it could be as simple as the cup of tea you have every morning. You then build the list that when you’re feeling a little down, you can refer back to realise the gifts that you have so you don’t focus so much on the things you think you don’t have.
