Spring cleaning is usually thought of as a big old clear up of everything you have accumulated over the past year, getting rid of shoes, clothes and other bits that do not serve you anymore. This is still majorly important as de-cluttering can boost your mood, allows you to be more productive, helps you to breathe better and gets your body moving!! However, it should not be the only place you look at when having a clear out. You need to take a look at your physical, mental and emotional space too and rid of anything that isn’t serving you here.
PHYSICAL SPRING CLEAN
Get your body moving!! Go for a run, a yoga class, HIIT class, pilates, barre or whatever it is that’s your thing. Get that heart pumping, that blood flowing, and that sweat pouring. Through these processes your body will begin to naturally detox.
Water water water!! I see so many clients who don’t drink water. It’s so common yet something that is so important. Our bodies are made of 70% water and we need it so that it can complete its relevant tasks and functions. The more water you drink, the more toxins that can be flushed from your body. If you’re not keen on the actual taste of water, try flavouring it with mint, cucumber, lemon, strawberries or any of your favourite fruit.
Get some rest!! While it’s a great time to be motivated and on the go, don’t forget that your body needs to recoup, rest and digest. Having enough sleep or resting throughout the day will not only help your physical productivity but your mental and emotional too.
Clean out the cupboards!! We still think this is super important and something that you shouldn’t forget. A tidy home and a tidy mind really does ring true. If the space around you is clean, tidy and just as you like it then you will feel far more motivated to put all of your new habits into place.
Cleanse!! Don’t let the word cleanse scare you. We are not talking about supplements, no food, juice only cleanse. Eliminate the heavy carbs, sugar, refined foods, alcohol and fast foods and replace them with light, whole foods, plenty of greens, and lots of fruit and vegetables. This will allow your body to rid of any of the processed foods and toxins that may have been lingering in your body along with taking in lots of important nutrients.
MENTAL SPRING CLEAN
Make a plan! What is it you want to achieve? What are your goals? It could be a new job, an exercise regime or something as simple as wanting to feel less grumpy in the mornings. Write a plan of ways you think you could achieve it and put that plan into action.
Find your mantra! Mantras, or affirmations are positive statements that can help you overcome negative thoughts. Setting yourself a few that you repeat throughout the day will set you up for a whole load of positive vibes. Say goodbye to that Neggy Nancy!!

Forgiveness! Say see ya to any grudges you have been holding towards yourself and to others. The past in the past and you cannot change it, so rather than living back there, learn from mistakes, forgive yourself and let yourself be free to move forward.
Find a new hobby!! We can sometimes find ourselves to be stuck in a bit of a rut and quite often it can be something as simple as taking up a new hobby which allows us to release anger, frustration and most commonly BOREDOM.
EMOTIONAL SPRING CLEAN.
Tune in to how you are feeling!! They are called feelings for a reason, because we feel them in our bodies, even if the mind does well at trying to hide and deny them, your body will still feel. All of your feelings have an important message and there is a reason that you are feeling them. Rather than brushing them under the carpet, allow them to flow through your body, be open and accept them no matter if they are positive or negative, you will begin to feel happier and healthier for it.
Make and renew connections! Whether it is with people, places or things, start making connections with the world around you. Go for a walk or cycle, meet up with an old friend, spend quality time with someone, repot some plants, do some exercise, take yourself out on a date, cook yourself a nutritious meal. This will get rid of your negative energy, clear out the clutter and open your spirit to the beautiful blossom of spring!
Let it go!! While you’re working on letting things go make sure that you are also taking the time to add things in. Bring in love, empowerment, confidence, courage, power and compassion – you can do this by writing a few more mantras or affirmations. You will notice that the negative feelings will flood out of your space and there will be far more room for the positive ones.
Choose a few of these tips, put them into action and you’ll be feeling like a new spring chicken. It’s all about out with the old and in with the new. Creating space for wonderful new energy to flow into your life. Happy cleaning!!
